TAS Introducing Myself

Post by nick'65 »

Hi everyone,
i thought it about time i introduced myself and my current VW status! :)
names's Nick, I'm 19 and live in tassie.
love the water, i get out sailing, kite boarding fishing etc whenever i can and when i can't i'm tinkering with kombi's (and then there's UNI but i try not to think about that too much)
currently i have my '76 kombi daily driver, running microbus middle seat and a factory folding back seat doubling as a bed.

secondly i have my recently picked up splitty (hence joining dsk)
she is a '65 Aussie 11 window bus, in polar white, and is currently getting stripped down for a rat resto :D

also my dad has a '78 camper and we also have a '78 parts bus (was rolled (not by us) and is pretty smashed, so if anyone is chasing parts in tas give me a yell, may be able to help)

also have a Leyland mini, but since the splitty, she has been on the market :( (PM me if you want more info)

sum it up I'm beginning my resto and have been really impressed with the result of the 'ratso' resto by resol, and am aiming for a result somewhat like that. hopefully it won't take too long, the bus is pretty solid, but I'm going to need a bit of advice here and there, not very familiar with splits yet :)
cheers, Nick

i attached these two images to see if you guys can confirm from the details that;
she's an Australian made kit bus, 1965, or does 'made in Germany' mean she was imported?, because i thought the 'K4112' number stamped in the engine bay was the kit number for Aussie kit busses?

All buses had the " Made in Germany" tag.

thanks Ted2, i thought that was probably the case.

60delux, good to hear about some more splitty owners in tas :)

this is the finish i aim to get the whole bus to, the result of very careful paint stripping and then cut and ploish to reveal the original polar white underneath;

ohh, no i hadn't seen this yet. that's very interesting, i notice he has a engine lid and the proper cargo doors and engine valance to go with it, none of this has ended up with me (there has been an owner between us). wonder what happened to that stuff, i'm going to have to chase some up at some stage, maybe he still has it...
