Hi all, long time VW owner but first time splitty owner! Finally my dream has come through although I still need to cross the ditch and bring it back from NZ over the next few weeks...

I've added some photos to the Members Rides area but here's a teaser. It operated as an amoured security van in NZ from 64 to the 90's I believe!

Sweet.

Was there any special features fitted inside the van?

The only thing I noticed was the security grill between the cabin and the rear. The 2nd owner turned it into a camper so may have removed some things.

I'm having another look on Monday so will report back!

Well I've spent two days up and close and personal. I've actually got photographs of the van when it just came out of security service in the early 90's. It also features in the book '50 years of VW in New Zealand'

Will post the pics when I've uploaded them to photo bucket.

In summary though:

* remote control deadlocks on all doors with green 'open' button indicators on all doors. (Disconnected when converted to 12v)
* control panel to control all deadlocks which used to be mounted on dashboard. (Have in box of parts)
* security grill to cover Left and Right cabin windows. (Still have in back of van)
* Amber lights mounted to top of cabin roof and red lights for rear roof. (in box of goodies of parts)
* buzzer mounted on LH rear corner for guards to alert driver ( still mounted)
* rear hatch with air vent grill only. Never fitted with window.
* security grill between cabin and rear ( still installed)
* tin lining throuout rear.

Nice little piece of history with good historical photos and documentation.... Hopefully in Melbourne mid Jan! I think I'll set it up as it was once intended at least for a few years. Have already swapped the Sprintstars for the original wheels.

Good choice on the wheels.

Any pics of it when the signage was still on it?
