Thanks Niko
I reckon I might bond the roof on and make my life easier rather than plug weld it.
Not sure if I want to do the body work for paint or not yet! Half tempted to have a crack at it myself as I'm not looking to have a perfect shiny bus at the end of it, more of a usable traveller that I wont be too worried about scratching
This sort of thing is my inspiration.....

Bridgestone mount barker sa can get these in for anyone 5.6x15.
Not the best tyres on the freeway at 55mph but great on the rough stuff
Fitted some recently to the single cab and a friend has a set on his country buggy.

I think they are called harp mirrors Morts. I'm sure I've seen people on the Samba sell them.
Are they radials Andrew? What brand are they?
I'm thinking of probably going with BF Goodrich All Terrains or maybe Mud Terrains.
Cheers

Gutter repairs are all done and prepped to go.
Waiting for the other side of the shed to be vacant for a few days so I can prep the donor roof.....
I bought a new toy and have been playing around pulling some of the dents and going back to re-do a few bits and pieces I wasn't happy with.
Should save a bit of bog come painting time

Also got some fun stuff done with extra pop outs and safaris installed as I suspect air flow will be important up here is the tropics
With the pop out I used card board top and bottom as packers to get the spacing even all round and also made a little check tool which had the measurement from the original rear hinges.

Roof prep is now pretty much done, took some time but was actually easier than I thought it would be, only about 10 hours work!
I think I used up about 15 cut off wheels in the process plus 3 flap disks and two paint strip disks!
The process I use was to section the roof strengthener into about 40cm sections, cut a slice in board of the roof skin which then basically peel the section upward to pop the spot welds off the inner roof skin. Then grinding down the flat section of gutter to get back to the inner part only.
On the cross ribs I found a lot of the spot welds had popped. On the others I used the power file to file away the weld on the rib and leave the roof un touched. Before removal I weld in the bars to hold everything together.
Also got the US over riders fitted up on the front bumper.
