Looks like a tidy shaft mod to me, I would happily do the same at home, if something happened that's going to damage that steering shaft in a Kombi, your gonna have bigger problems. That thing won't fall, especially with Wiz's welding skill..

IMO engineers will suggest the "best" way to do something, but that doesn't mean the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best ways to do that thing aren't completely safe as well.

I feel like the sleeve is insurance on top of what was already an adequate job, for this to go bad it would need 2 of the three full diameter welds to fail as well as 2 of the 4 10mm plug welds to fail. She's bulletproof, engineered or not but I absolutely appreciate the input. I'll do my best to not put Senna like strain on it

I also have one of these welded shortened steering columns
In my 63 bus, and I believe I drive my bus on the shitest rds in Victoria and we all know Victoria has the worst rds in Australia
Have also done the same mod for my mango bus, but if I’m completely honest this is not the mod that is keeping me awake at night……

We’re going to have to keep all animals and small children 2 meters back from the bus while running or they’ll get sucked straight in.

Word on the street is that National Mountain Climbing Day has been delayed by 2 Weeks due to bad weather, still waiting on the organisers to confirm but I did get the rumour from a good source

Bugger.

All is not lost however, just might be expensive if the wife finds out.

August 14 boys lock it in.

Not going to be much to post about, it’s pretty much going to be a month of hitting the bus with a hammer but I’ll put pics up as I go.
