This is probably a silly question, but what's a 126A engine?
Aside of that brakes and a throttle is just for rego checks.

Not silly at all.
VW brought out a couple of Industrial Engines in 1200 and 1600 forms. 122A (1200) and 126A (1600).
Mine were ex Army that were hooked up to generators. Type industrial engine in the search and I think there was a blurb somewhere.
I'll get a photo up here of one.

Nothing like an old project getting around under its own steam to get you keen. No need to hurry these things mate !
A bit like that Wallflowers song, 'One Headlight'.
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists! Whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

Good work Sir, nothing like that 1st drive.

The 1st time the Yoot moved out of the shed was with no steering wheel or brakes...just a few feet forward but man was it good to see it finally moving.

Crack on now mate, looking forward to hearing and seeing more progress.

Ahhh, I know the ones.
Actually, there's a fella who I was speaking to who has I think a 126A & the 3 phase generator that links to it.
It was the emergency generator for one of the ski resorts and it's had a few hours of use all up.
It'd be an awesome item but for the money he wants for the motor alone I'd probably be better off spending it on a normal 1600dp, not a genny motor.
They have different cams and limiters or the like, don't they?

^^^^Not sure on the internals but I think there are some differences.

Time for brake renewal: Are CIP1 the go for brake stuff eg. cylinders, booster and lines? Has anyone got the lines in before, just thinking about the length with freight??

They dont have the front to back line or pass front one , there lines are ok and cheap , I have most of the lengths written down if you need them and think they still have 15% off
Straight axle is better than IRS

Thanks Klaus. I'll have a look at the lines a bit closer and see what they're like. Haven't even pulled a wheel off yet!!

Righto, this has been a long while coming but hopefully the wait was worth it.
A bloke I know (on this forum!) has been giving me a hard time about not having a bus on the road whilst he's been swanning around in his Samba. In this pc world we live in, he would be classed as harassing me. But I'm a big boy now, so I pulled up my skirt, flicked out the sand and decided it was time to show him what us Southern blokes can do!!
Job 1: was to get rid of the hairy panic out of the bus. (Google it if you aren't lucky enough to get it!!)
Job 2: was put a motor back in and do another lap to the mailbox for a gearbox check.
Job 3: was get the electrics sorted.
Job 4: go back and finish Job 3 first....

Electrics:
The motor I'm using to test is still the industrial 1600 and it still has the magneto installed. This means I don't need any bus electrics to run it as long as I crank start it with the handle. First job was to get it cranking off the key. Hooked up a battery and got nothing. Had a headlight and tail light but that was all. Decided to dive in deeper and pulled the ignition barrel out to check power at the back of it. Had constant feed, ignition power out when on but no power out when turned around to crank position. Let's go even deeper! Pulled the barrel apart and found the lobe on the ring for the start position was completely worn/burnt out! Didn't want to get a new barrel as I have the original keys for this bus and they are rusty and cool!
Let's rebuild it then...
The missing lobe.
