Clinto's 67 Resto..

Post by Cartonofbeerkombi »

Well its been a long journey.
It all started just over two years ago when someone replied to an add I had posted on the Gum Tree wanting an old kombi, he said it had been out there for over 20 years and I was welcome to it as long as i gave the land owner a carton of beer. A couple of weeks later she was in my back yard and I was wounding where to find a roof, I checked evil-bay that night and there was a rusty old roof, $250 later she was on her way to Alice via works freight account. First off was to tackle all the rust in the lower half and fit a 74 bay rear chassis to have IRS and to fit in the 6 rib box and the 1916cc Pobjoy witch I found at my local mechanics. I Repaired and prep it all so she was ready for paint, which I got done at a local paint shop then it was the fun part to put it all back together, then a final tune and it went though MVR with flying colours and now its time to enjoy.
Here a few photo i took along the way...
Cheers Clinton

Looks really good mate, I like the colour scheme. Look forward to seeing it at Valla.
Cheers Dave
Squat, place chin on chest, tuck head and tip forward, shoulders connect with ground and back follows through, legs go over the top and feet land on the ground. That's how I roll!

Great stuff, meaning of username now apparent :)
So with that 2ltr box, does that give you good low and top speed ?

Thanks guys I've really enjoyed building her and I have a few more to get on to now, unfortunately she won't be making it to Valla this year Dave as my partner should be giving birth to our second child that week but I'll fly over and back instead. And Linz I'm sorry I've never driven any other kombis before so I don't have anything to compeer it to but she cruises along nicely but I haven't taken her out of town to see how she goes yet but I'll let you know, so far so good.

Put a 68 bay rear graft into my other 61dc ( removing it soon) too wide to go low and get wheel off easy even with adj spring plates , 2ltr box ratios aren't as good as "at" box but a lot stronger and box hangs down lower , nice work on bus btw
Straight axle is better than IRS

You certainly know your stuff Klaus, I had to lower the box and motor by about 80mm and I've found its reving a bit around 100kph thinking of getting rid of the low profile tyres to get a bigger rolling diameter to help out, I'm only going to drop by 2 inches I have no interest in going lower with this one. It's only my first one and I've learnt a lot.
