Rightio, I'm getting closer now to starting.

I'd like to pick your brains a bit more........
Did you weld or bond the bed pieces together before you bonded/glued the tray onto the crossmembers?
If so just spot or fully weld? You use Mig or Tig?
I haven't done much panel work since the olden days, when I was beating all welding was done either filler/fusion or brazing with oxy, Mig's were only just starting to be used in engineering and weren't used in panel work.

Bonding/glue seems a good strong way of fitting without the distortion you get with welding.

Well my tray was a bit different because I ended up with a combination of Split and Bay sections so I welded them together as two long pieces ( left and Right)
Just glue mate , you can put in a few self tapping screws if you like to keep it in place
Also you could do it doing the front’s first and the rear’s a few days later, up to you
Something heavy to sit on top while the glue sets
