57 Dove Blue 11 window

Post by Vinda76 »

Hi all,

Bought a kombi from the Sunshine Coast last Feb from the guy who rescued it from a property near Eromanga QLD a few years earlier. This is the only pic I have of how it was originally found - pic comes from a guy on the Kombiclub who had heard about it whilst looking for one himself.

I have done a great deal to date, mainly building a rotisserie. Copied the full ring design but with split rings to allow it to get out of the garage whilst still on the dollies - this also meant I could align the rings closely to the suspension pick up points and due to the split ring the front doors can open fully with the top half of the ring removed.

Oh nice work, you clearly won’t have any trouble building the bus. 8)

the bus itself looks pretty honest. Not much rot. Great fab work on the rotisserie.

Appreciate the responses about the rotisserie.

Started to do some repairs on the chassis rails, amazing how much sand gets stored in them! This is the second go at this patch, first time I tack welded it in place and got a bit carried away with the grinding, this left a depression line along the weld line. When I cut the patch out I wasn't getting very good penetration, so glad I redid. Did some research and discovered it's possible to seam weld 1.5mm steel, did some practice and tried again.

Still need to finish the grinding along the edge.

Next part I wasn't looking forward to, the chassis had a hole and crack where the steering damper had been gently(?!) removed in the past. I could feel in the previous repair that I had good penetration by putting my finger through the wiring loom hole so I felt confident enough to have a go. Turned out well in the end with good penetration.
