Hub caps on, drug influenced safaris open, and you can see the new three seater seat installed with inbuilt inertia safety belts. Didn’t have much choice with the seat as needed ADR compliance to upgrade to six seater and tick off the “if kids can’t sit in the back the bus must go” box requirement set by the wife. Sure it doesn’t look the part on its own but throw a couple of op shop crocheted rugs over it and waa-lah, looks fine.

I see those beetle rims and shudder.

Finishing things up on this resto was the use of green butchers grass on the floor. My theorem behind it is simple, you go to the beach and if it’s wet, you can sit in the back and have your feet on the grass as if you were sitting outside and your feet stay clean and dry. Some people love it, another “purist” can’t stand it, mentions it all the time, and really needs to get over it.

The second thing to notice in the pic is the split rims thanks to Ian the Wiz over in Adelaide town’s secret supply of bits and pieces. Beetle rims sold and never to be seen again on this split.

Having spoken recently to (SA) Cooper and Steve (who has the Whyalla van) about excessive noise in the split panel vans, I decided it was time to make up a cab divider for the bulk head as it apparently makes a huge reduction and more enjoyable drive. Cooper also was nice enough to provide some specs for the cut in window. When the job was done, my decibel app on the phone reckons it’s about a full 8 decibels quieter and I can vouch for that.

Being on a roll, I thought it was time to upgrade the homemade black floor mat to some lush grass to match the hula girl and colour coordinated fan.

Was going to say that grass will be a bitch to dry out if it gets wet, then I remembered u don’t drive it 2 days either side of a rainy day
Might sprinkle a few bindi in the fake grass next time I see it, that will get your attention

It was involved in a fairly decent head on at some stage going by what was revealed when it was sandblasted. My guess is it is one of first ever OG Wiz specials where someone plucked bits and pieces from multiple buses to get it back on the road. I’m simply going by the compliance plate.

As for the grass, I am aware there are a few purists out there that struggle to deal with it but I drive all the time in bare feet. So nice to feel the grass under your feet instead of dirty rubber matting. Bring your thongs Wiz to the drags and go for a barefoot spin, you’ll convert.

Looks great mate. Have you got any of the OG fake turf left over? I think Matt needs some for his bus. Only problem is, it’ll probably be dead by the time his bus is ready for the road.

Do you thing Matt is actually trying to get his on the road? I was told that he only bought it so he could join DSK and be involved in a ‘community’ that would accept him for who he is without being bullied.

When the fuck does the “community” start and the bullying finish?
