 That did actually cross my mind! It’s all a learning curve right?? :P
Didn’t get too far on Sunday after I slipped with my spot weld drill bit and ended up spending 7 hours at the hospital getting my wrist closed up again!

That’s a good one! Glad you’re all stitched up.

Ouch, yep I’ve done the same but I hit the webbing perfectly beside my thumb. Spot weld drills make a mess of skin

Ouch, And to think that there is a pin hole in the middle of that mesh of skin too.

Back into it yesterday, cut off old chassis rail from the donor cradle that Brad and Andrew threw in with the sale. Clamped up the new chassis rails to confirm measurements, etc.

Straightening out the front sections of chassis rails - both pretty squashed and flared out a bit so I grabbed a set of spring clamps, drilled a hole in the shaft just below the top clamp so that it couldn’t slide and put a washer and split pin through so that I could use them in reverse! Actually worked pretty well and a lot less hammering!

Oh and my spot drill wound has healed up nicely to look like I’ve got some sort of bug crawling in my skin… :?

Todays progress: Welded torsion tube to chassis all the way round both sides, tack welded the inner and outer chassis rails and ground back welds so that it can be properly spot welded later for extra strength, tack welded the torsion bar ends in what I think will be the right spot but will leave it to Andrew to sort the final position later…
Lifted the whole section into place for a test fit and its not too far out really, should be able to knock it into the right spot once I’ve had a chance to check a few measurements, etc…cracker of a day too!

Your workshop looks too clean and tidy for my liking. Distinct lack of extension leads, welding lines, and air compressor hoses.

I’ll take that as a compliment! :D

After chatting to Coop I drilled and plug welded for added strength in a heap of spots top and bottom the whole way along chassis rails then linished back and gave it all a quick squirt of silver galv.
Installed it back in place and tack welded to each corner so I could remove some of the bracing and now have the bus supported by the chassis front and rear instead of the Frankensteel frame I had tack welded to the body in different spots up until now!
Bought a couple of replacement sections of front chassis rail from Heritage Parts as I still wasn’t happy with how warped and beat up the current ones were, just need to line it up properly then weld it all up and I’ll be on to the cargo floor frame!

Anyone got any tips/advice on installation of the whole assembly? I bought the complete kit pre-assembled from All Aircoold… Should I support the roof before cutting out all of the existing to prevent it from dropping/sagging? Anything I should be aware of?

Cheers all! :D
