Just into Queensland in a little town called Camooweal, we pulled up for lunch and toilet and a fella came to chat about the Kombi. Nothing new, people are always chatting about the Kombi, except this fella looked a lot like Jim Richards. Turns out it was Jim Richards, he was on his way from Darwin after racing at Hidden Valley. Had a bit of a chat about the trip and stuff and he was on his way. Forgot to get pics, but it really did happen. BTW there is an early bay window looks in pretty good shape and a 60s beetle in a yard with heaps of rusty cars in Camooweal if anyone wants to try their luck with it, no pics of that either. Also spotted this trashed 66 PMG, not very rusty but very bent. About the only thing worth grabbing would be the bulkhead and the PMG towbar. Didn’t want to get shot so I left it. It is probably known by someone as it is visible from the highway.

Squat, place chin on chest, tuck head and tip forward, shoulders connect with ground and back follows through, legs go over the top and feet land on the ground. That's how I roll!

Wow...if those vents were in better shape, I'd ask someone to go cut em out, grab the inside pieces that match them if possible, and ship them over to me!

Very jealous - I would love to be doing the same.

Headed up into the gulf country all the way to Karumba (aye Karumba) and Normanton then continued east toward Cairns. Learnt another lesson in the little town of Croydon, don't camp next to the rodeo ground on the weekend of a campdraft/rodeo event, even if it is free. By the time 5 am came around and the cowboys still had their music blaring we just packed up and left.

Good to see you put the giant crocodile on the right way. Their open mouth catching all that wind can play havoc with your fuel economy.
Good travelin'.
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists! Whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

Thanks guys for a great afternoon, was great to meet you all.

We stayed at Cairns for a few days with a day trip up to Mossman Gorge and Port Douglas then made our way down the coast, a few free camps and a couple of nights at Airlie Beach. Cruised to Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island, an amazing place. Then kept heading south to Sunshine Coast and met up with the fellas there. Some pics...
