Best working Practice - Installing Pop-Out-Windows

Post by Fathermarc »

Ok Gang...

I wanna start installing a set of OG Pop-Out-Windows and I was hoping that one of you lot would have done it recently. I wanna know the best way to line up the hinges before welding.

The obvious way would be:
1. Fit the hinges to the window first.
2. Push the windows into the reveals.
3. Mark the hinges out on the frame.
4. Drill hinges for spot welds.
5. Use self tappers to hold the hinges in situ.
6. Weld to frame.
7. Remove self tappers.
8. Weld the remaining holes.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. Highlight any thing I've missed.

Many thanks,
M

that sounds right for me and I need to fit 6 of them, what about the rubber frame seal changing the position of the hinge?

Ha,the last post in that is mine , why can't you just measure up from the swage line it should be constant ,what we do when we're hanging lots of doors in a new building is make up a story rod which has the hinges marked on it then on the reverse side has the jamb side plus the gap at top marked it gets it spot on each time

I think I will do just that. All that welding bits of metal together looks a little technical for such a simple task. Why not just make a hardboard template of the opening? Offer it up to the original hinge mark out the top and bottom marks. Done!
