Dual cab resto
Got sick of looking at the rust holes in the back gate and a few other spots on the dual cab so thought best to have a crack with the newly purchased model CIG BlueVenom 190 welder to see if it was dummy proof.
Well it was nearly dummy proof. I soon discovered that with a new model, CIG research lab decided to change things so your old gear won’t fit. To start with, it only came with a 0.8/.9 wire roller so the 0.6 wire obviously wasn’t happy to start with. Pain in the arse when you live 20km out of town so I rang around for a 0.6 roller only to discover they were $60 cause the hole in the middle is bigger than everything else on the market! Plus the new welding tips are tapered which I discovered when I got back home so I had to make do with the stock 0.9 tip as I wasn’t driving back to town again.
By now, the day was done as I wasn’t starting anything mid afternoon with the cold wind starting to kick in down here in southwest Victoria. Got the fire going and plonked on the couch and watched Kill Bill.

Nope, haven't seen that one. There was one in ferns on the southern side of the airfield down there in the Cashmore area, looked a bit like your avatar. I'm up Casterton way, apart from a couple of Country Buggies don't know much around here.

Re: Dual cab resto
Probably got this post feed in the wrong section. My apologies to the DSK purists as it’s a ‘99 Hilux dual cab. Bought it back in 2002 and mechanically A1. Showing signs of living its life outdoors. Qualified this year for club rego so I reckon that deserves a makeover and maybe its first ever cut and polish once all the rust repairs are done.
Anyway, the resto continues and I’m thinking about putting a wood heater in the shed so when guests visit I can show them my toys and get them to start the fire for me if I’m struggling.
Took the tail gate off. Should have been straight forward if I hadn’t have submerged the rear tub in the ocean one day by accident fifteen years ago.
Wire wheeled three small holes that grew to become one long continuous section. The other end was the same but smaller. The joy then of skimping on the amount of metal removed around the rusted area meant blowing more holes with the welder than were being filled. Trap for young player's.

Might be easier to grab some white cloth tape and cover up the holes and then just let her go piecefully, it's a Hilux so will still last your lifetime before it falls apart.

Re: Dual cab resto
Chokeboard you need to stop, and here’s why
I have made a living off of these DIY projects
Owner takes a perfectly good running in your case Utility and has a go at fixing it up, has no skills or time to do it, ends up totally stripping it down but still on wheels, starts out in the shed but the missus wants her car spot back, now it’s in the back yard with a tarp over it
Forward 2 or 3 years it’s in the paper for sale and I go around and buy it CHEAP
All I do is put it all back together and get it running again and resell it to another DIYer
Wait 3 years fair chance of buying it back CHEAP
Put the tailgate back on and drive the shit out of it
